Ultrasound Therapy in Bentonville

Woman receiving ultrasound therapy on lower back

Ultrasound therapy uses specific frequencies of inaudible sound waves directed through the skin into the tissues below, where the waves interact with the tissues at a cellular level to promote healing. At 479 Chiropractic & Wellness, we offer ultrasound as part of your customized care plan.

How It Works

When the sound waves affect the cells of the tissue, they stimulate a response in the body that produces heat and increased blood circulation to the affected area. This increase in blood flow brings healing nutrients needed for repair.

In addition, the sound waves help break up scar tissue that has formed in the muscles or ligaments. Since scar tissue restricts proper movement and causes pain, eliminating the scar tissue can reduce pain and restore mobility.

Who It Helps

This therapy can be an ideal adjunct to chiropractic care. While the adjustments restore proper movement to the bones of the spinal and extremity joints, ultrasound provides healing support to the soft tissues. This combination can often be effective in various conditions, such as:

  • Any chronic joint pain
  • Disc herniations
  • Ligament injuries
  • Migraines
  • Muscle spasms
  • Radiculopathy
  • Sprain/strains
  • Tendinitis

What to Expect

The ultrasound device is a handheld instrument with a rounded head that we place in direct contact with your skin, using a gel to help conduct the sound waves. We will run the instrument over and around the affected area for about 5 minutes. You may feel warmth in the area—this is caused by the increased blood flow and is normal. The device itself does not produce any heat and is completely painless.

Many patients experience noticeable relief of their symptoms within a few sessions.
